A fair turn-out for the last race of the NFR championship, with Susan Davis, Pat Cooper, Charles Stead, Geoff Davis, Paul Appleby, Allon Welsh, Graham Wilkinson, Bernard Kivlehan, John Dallinson, Stewart Beaty, David Beaumont, Joe Garbarino , Keith Cooper and myself.
The race is somewhere between 4.2 miles and 5.3 miles long with between 800 and 1000 ft of climbing dependent on what you choose to read! It was a nice clear and cold day for running. Carrying kit was enforced!
After an initial woodland climb on a rather clarty track,
the route followed the path along the edge of the Broughton
woods below the escarpment for about 3 kilometres. The going
was patchy.
The route turned left over good grass for a short while,
then onto the hard flags and stone steps of the Cleveland
Way. The next climb was stiff but short and then a quick
run over the top then an equally steep descent (funny that
on a fell run!). The climb up past the Wainstones was pleasant
enough then a long run along the edge of the escarpment back
via White Hill. The final descent was great fun over fast
peat and old bracken to check point one and the muddy track
home.
Charlie was second overall, with the positions from NFR:
Charlie, Geoff , Paul, Allon, Phil, John, Graham, Bernard, Susan, Stewart, David, Joe and Pat.
