A beautiful, sunny and warm autumnal afternoon in the Duddon Valley saw over 200 runners take part in the Dunnerdale Fell Race, penultimate race in this year's NFR club championship. NFR was represented by nine runners and led home by Will Horsley in 24th place overall. A bit further back, Scott Gibson just held off a late challenge from Garry Owens with Dave Atkinson not far behind. This gave NFR 8th place in the mens team competition. Also there were Paul Hainsworth, Peter Reed, Terry Hart, Richard Cavner and Matt Simms, who unfortunately twisted his ankle on the deceptively rocky terrain on the first descent and could not finish. The conditions underfoot were much drier than anticipated and the lush lower Dunnerdale fells around Stickle Pike hid rock-strewn paths that made descending a bit tricky. We enjoyed meat and potato pies in the village hall afterwards.
