Two short club reports:
From John Duff ...
NFR was well represented at the Chevy Chase on Saturday with 21 runners amongst the 170 strong field. Bone dry conditions underfoot made for fast times, although these were slightly tempered by the strong headwind to Cheviot. It was a fairly warm day, but with the breeze and some cloud cover, conditions were not too oppressive.
Phil Sanderson stormed into an early lead. He was chased by Matt Roberts (Eryri) and John Boyle (Dark Peak). In the end Matt Roberts caught Phil on the road to win the race in 3:01. Phil had to settle for second with John Boyle third. Phil had the consolation of being first V40.
Further down the field, South Shields were there in force and gave NFR a run for the team prize. However unlike last year, we prevailed this time to win the prize with the counters being Phil Sanderson, John Duff, and David Gunning. Not far behind were Paul Redman, Chris Winter, and Chris Sanderson.
The ladies race was won by Eleanor Hurrell (unattached). Sue Mitchell had an excellent run to finish second overall and first V40 in a time of 3:55.
As ever, there was an excellent atmosphere at the hostel as competitors enjoyed the tea, sandwiches, and cake afterwards. The race was superbly organised by Wooler Running Club, to whom many thanks are due.
John Duff
... and from Phil Green:
Well done to all NFRs after this weekend's Chevy Chase. Splendid results all round with a sorely contested second place from Phil Sanderson.
Cracking runs from John Duff and David Gunning and Paul
Redman helped to bring the Chevy team prize back to NFR!
Sue Mitchell was 1st NFR lady and second lady overall, and in under
the 4 hours.
Brill run Sue, shows what happens when the dogs left in the hoose!!!
A very notable result was that of Mr Peter Reed, who has taken to
retirement like a duck to water. A sub four hour time and looking
fit as a lop. I have asked for a steward's enquiry and drug testing
given my 4.13 finish.
All in all cracking team effort all round with many becoming Chevy
chasers for the first time.
well done everyone.
