It was certainly one of those days where knowing the route really
helps. The cloud was almost at ground level and did not lift that
much all day. Even thinking I knew the route well, there were still
a couple of places where people were going off in all sorts of directions
and I had to check myself to make sure I was on the right trod.
A brisk ENE wind also meant that we were running into the wind as
we turned for the long run home, which takes its toll in a 16 mile,
6200ft race. This was my first ‘real’ fell race this year, having
been mostly focused on doing the long trail race series (SUMS) in
Scotland and it was so good to put my walshes on!
Scottish fell races are great, every road crossing offers water, jelly babies,
flapjack and even sometimes mini mars bars! Whilst it was misty and windy, it
was actually not too cold and quite a good running temperature.
Jane, Lewis and Billy Fraser were the NFR representatives, and Lewis finished
in 30th position, Billy in 100th place with myself in 133rd – pleased to come
in for the second year running at just under 4 hours.
