Organiser's Report
I’d like to begin the report by thanking all the runners who arrived at Barrowburn for this year’s race. On all accounts it seems to have been a success. Indeed you raised some £200 for the North of Tyne SRT.
The first success was the weather; on Saturday it was 9C when I arrived to mark the course. Ian Tait, shepherd at Barrowburn, had just got back from the hill and I took his advice to wrap up well. Three layers with a waterproof, tracksters, hat and gloves and I was not overdressed. The Windies; Windy Gyle and Windy Rigg were living up to their names and the sheep were seeking shelter in sunny hollows..
By Sunday it was 19C at Barrowburn. The wind had dropped and the sheep were seeking the shade.
The second success was the race itself. Two runners under an hour and all finished before the end of the prize giving. No late arrivals and favourable comments from everyone make it all worthwhile.
The third success was the support of the marshals and helpers. Ian
Tait at Barrowburn, Neil Hindmarsh at Rowhope and Chris Livsey Army
Training Estate manager (OTA). Tony and Helen for registration and
finish. Team Green managed by Sharon with James, Thomas and Matthew
who as ever did the extra jobs that make things go smoothly. Waz
and Ben who did a great job collating the results. The North of Tyne
SRT for providing distant marshals. They went on to complete a training
exercise simulating (thankfully) a missing runner.
Finally thanks to Will Horsley for his Race Control caravan, the
race report from a competitor's point of view and publishing the
results.
That’s my lot for this year but no doubt it’ll soon be Brough Law and it will all start again.
