Dry underfoot conditions and a cool day made for quick times at the Allendale Challenge. The man-eating bogs were very tame compared to most years, though more than one runner still managed to go thigh-deep into them. The early mist and drizzle cleared, leaving good visibility over Killhope Law with no route finding difficulties. The Cross Fell range could be seen in the distance.
Dave Wiseman was first home for NFR not far behind the winner. Dave Gunning was next in, followed by myself and Frank Shillitoe. Steph Scott was second lady, running a storming final leg from Ladle Well and leaving her pacer John Telfer in her wake. Geoff and Susan Davis were both pleased with their runs. Also spotted there were Peter Reed, Paul Appleby (walking), Peter Hayle, Bernard Kivlehan, Dave Johnson, Trevor Wakenshaw, and Marie.
